A case-control study was performed to identify risk factors associated with ischemic ocular motor nerve palsies. After applying strict, predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria to the medical records of all patients evaluated by one of us (DMJ) during a four and one-half year period of time with neurologically isolated ocular motor nerve palsies, 65 patients were identified who we felt had suffered ischemic palsies without an alternative etiology for their ophthalmoplegia
