The acute surgical treatment of orbital trauma and traumatic optic neuropathy (TON) really falls into three separate areas for consideration. These areas are that of orbital and periocular complications such as orbital and subperiosteal hemorrhage, traumatic optic canal deformation or TON presumably occurring in the canal, and finally that of the role of optic nerve sheath fenestration in specific traumatic situations. Each of these will carry with it separate implications and settings, both for the evaluation and the ongoing surgical treatment as well as the surgical approach that will direct the course of this treatment.CFoculartraum
