The acute surgical treatment of orbital trauma and traumatic optic neuropathy (TON) really falls into three separate areas for consideration. These areas are that of orbital and periocular complications such as orbital and subperiosteal hemorrhage, traumatic optic canal deformation or TON presumably occurring in the canal, and finally that of the role of optic nerve sheath fenestration in specific traumatic situations.
