Lymph node (human)

Stain: Azan. Left and right: survey of lymph nodes, compare the individual differences between the nodes. The pictures display the cortex (1) with capsule (3), and the medulla (2). The cortex consists of (secondary) follicles displaying a clear germinal centre (4). The paracortex (T cell area) is defined as the regions between and below the B cell follicles. Afferent lymph vessels (5) drain into the subcapsular sinus (6), and proceed towards the paratrabecular sinuses or intermediate sinuses (7). Paratrabecular sinuses arise from the subcapsular sinus and continue into the medulla as branching medullary sinuses surrounded by medullary cords. The medulla (2) contains medullar cords (8) and medullar sinuses (9). In the hilum (10) efferent lymphatic vessels (l), a single draining vein (v) and one entering artery (a) are present (sectioned more than once). Note that the medullar cords are better developed in the right node (B) than in the left node (A)
