According to the World Health Organization, depression is the fourth leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and it is expected to rise to the second leading cause by 2020 (WHO, 2012). Depression has been shown to increase morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs while delaying recovery and contributing to poorer prognoses (Park & Unützer, 2011).
