Called coal liners, these cars were specially built for joint service with the D & RGW from Sunnyside Utah coal mines to the Kaiser Steel Plant in Fontana, CA. This was built when a model unit coal train operation 100 cars (95 U.P. & 5 D & RGW) replaced 1,000 older and smaller coal cars. Later these 100 ton capacity cars were used to take uranium mill tailings from the old vitro plant in So. S.L. to Clive, UT
