Intra-articular distal radius fractures account for approximately 18% of fractures in patients over 65 years old. Treatment of these fractures with ORIF results in faster return to active range of motion compared to closed reduction and casting. Restoration of radiographic parameters did not coincide with better range of motion and decreased pain. Although surgery resulted in the ability to begin active range of motion earlier than closed reduction and casting, there appears to be no difference in pain or range of motion 24 months after treatment
