[eng] This paper analyses and compares the figure of the double in Edgar Allan Poe’s William Wilson and Joseph Conrad’s The Secret Sharer. It will examine how this theme is already present within the titles of both stories and how it is influenced by narrative perspective. Using Lubomír Doležel typology of the theme of the double it will then categorise and compare the ones present in the short stories.. It shall then provide different readings and interpretations for these doublings. Finally, it shall prove that the differences between the use of the double in the two stories are a reflection of the literary movements to which they belong
