Flip

Augmented reality, or AR, has recently become more widely recognized and available to the average consumer thanks to AR mobile development kits such as Apple’s ARKit and Google’s ARCore. Flip is an interactive mobile application that utilizes the AR capabilities of iOS development to deliver a unique experience for smartphone users. By introducing a new take on AR in the modern age of social media and content sharing, this project makes AR the prevailing feature of the application with an emphasis on user customization and sharing. The application uses the device camera to allow the user to place 3D AR objects in the camera view. AR objects placed in the scene may be moved by dragging and dropping on the screen. Once the user is satisfied with the scene, the user may capture a snapshot of the scene to save it as a project. The user may open the project and edit the snapshot by moving and resizing existing objects in the scene as well as adding new objects as 2D stickers. When the project is loaded back into camera view in the same location that the snapshot was taken, the objects will appear in 3D, and the user may view the new changes and additions that have been made. The goal of Flip is to offer iPhone users the ability to design, customize, and share their AR creations with other users. A demonstration of Flip will be available as part of Senior Project Day on May 5, 2018
