City of Modesto\u27s Catherine Everett Park Rehabilitation and Stormwater Underground Conveyance System

In recent decades, the City of Modesto has faced severe flooding in multiple neighborhoods. The city implemented several strategies in order to alleviate the flooding. Rockwells that captured stormwater runoff initially reduced flooding; however, lack of maintenance resulted in the system becoming inefficient. The city then decided to divert stormwater to the sewer system by installing storm to sewer cross connections. Although this initially alleviated the flooding, because the sewer system was not designed to hold storm water there ended up being a large number of sewer overflows during the rainy season. This project includes the design of a separate storm sewer system that will divert storm water runoff to an underground retention basin located in Catherine Everett Park. The pipeline system will be designed to accommodate a 10 year storm. The retention basin will be designed to accommodate a 100 year storm and will allow water to infiltrate back into the ground. This project also includes rehabilitating Catherine Everett Park by adding a running path to the park perimeter and designing a timber recreational hall that could be rented out by the community to host parties or events. The recreational hall will have a multi-functional space, a counter and sink space, and a storage closet for chairs and tables. Since the proposed location is where the current abandoned restrooms are located, new restrooms will be added to the recreational hall with exterior entrances. The foundation for the building will be designed as a continuous foundation for the walls and square footings for the columns. A slab on grade will be designed for the floor itself. The project deliverables include: a final report/poster, engineering drawings, a cost estimate, and verbal presentation. The poster and presentation will be shown at Senior Project Day on May 6
