[Sketch: Front 1 [mile] wide, 1st [East] of [Yakutat] [glacier] 5 miles from it; Front 1-1/2 [miles]. 2d [East] of [Yakutatu] [Glacier] 2 [miles] from 1st] tide and bergs fall on the beach. None that I saw reached the sea. Not a berg [Yakutat] and [Glacier] Bay, 4 in Lituya [Bay] thundering off bergs, but saw none outside nor any outside of [Prince] [William] [Sound] or even of the inlets. But as we entered Cross Sound I saw a berg sailing into the open ocean and all the way along the sound and Icy Strait they were sprinkled, all of course from [Glacier] Bay. This bay yields more ice than all those to [Westward] put together, perhaps more than these of all the coast beside. Just as we entered Cross Sound [clouds] or fog or mist began...
