Friday 31,1895 Clear. Very cool need fire in my room. Wind still high. Busy hauling hay & picking cherries. Royal Ann just ripening. Had a fine visit from Profs Anderson & [Greene] of Palo Alto. They came on bycycles [bicycles] all the way around the head of the SF bay by Sunole, Dublin, San Ramone ,Walnut Crk, Pichenko [Pacheco] & Martinez 90 miles, starting from Palo Alto at 8:30. Arriving at Martinez about 6:30. After stopping at Walnut Creek for dinner. June Saturday 1, 1895 Cool & clear. High wind. Profs Anderson & [Greene] with us all day. Bright fellows & we greatly enjoyed their conversation. Sunday 2 The Profs left this morning for Napa. went up to Swetts- saw Ruth. And at my brothers met Profs Merriam & Johnson of Berkeley. The former has been examining the rocks hereabouts for the last three weeks. He came over to the house in the evening. He found an Amonite [ammonite] in our apricot orchard. Cretaceous, & all the [Tertiaries] found. Monday 3 very warm & calm. Busy getting in hay. The wrens seem to have led off their young today or yesterday. I hope no accident befel [befell]. Many cats lay in their way...[Leased the wharf to Anderson. Hot night] Tuesday 4 Hot still day. Went to the city. Sold the cherries to [Levy] for 65 cts [cents] net. Also pears same price.
