Abundance of good peat. Large tusk at base of silt bluff. Large flocks of Ptarmigan. Beaver-gnawed alder. Returned at 12 midnight. Very cold all day, with snow-fall on the adjacent mountains. 11 Sep. Mild tranquil day. 46o M. On board all day. The Corwin sailed from Chamisso I[sland] this evening back to Elephant Point, intending to start early tomorrow morning to make further examinations of the ice formations. 12 Sep.
