Grey ceramics are common on medieval sites in Southern France. Produced in local or regional workshops, this archetypal grey mixture is still an essential indicator of the medieval era. Although its propagation appears limited, it was massively used. It was commonplace on production sites and civil housing in the Provence, Rhone and Languedoc regions. Its presence on the site of the abbey in Lagrasse underlines its use in a religious context. Through extricating the chronological and typological characteristics of the grey ceramics at the Sainte-Marie d’Orbieu abbey, we can specify the categories that are present in the lands of the Aude department.
