Rabies virus (VR) glycoprotein (G) forms spicules at the surface of virions. These spicules have the shape of a globular mass at the tip of a rod. They ensure the attachment of the VR to its target cell and, following the endocytosis of the VR, the protonation of G causes conformational rearrangements which cause the membrane of the virus to merge with that of the cell.The folding of G ectodomain was studied along two axes.
