This thesis studies the opportunity to develop the versatility of managers in the retail sector. It is based on a multi-site case study conducted in four hypermarkets belonging to two distinct groups and covers all 73 operational managers.Analysis of the concept of versatility indicates a dichotomy between workstation and individual-based approaches. We propose to overcome these two positions through a complex analysis of the phenomenon. To this end, our methodology opts for the plurality and complementarity of data sources and processing methods.
