The contributions of Vicente Salles (1931-2013) for the study of cordel literature in the Amazon

The aim of this paperis to analyze the main contributions of anthropologist and folklorist Vicente Salles (1931-2013) for studies of cordel literature Amazon. Salles was a pioneer in research about cordelin the region, being also responsible for the formation of the main body of cordel book lets of northern Brazil, the Vicente Salles Collection, located in the Museum of the Federal University of Pará in Belém, Brazil. The paper analyzes two studies of Vicente Salles: the article “Guajarinafolhetariade Francisco Lopes”, published in 1971, and the book Repente e cordel, literatura popular em versos na Amazônia, published in 1985. We believe that such studies are essential to understanding the production and circulation of the cordelin the Amazon.O objetivo do artigo é o de analisar as principais contribuições do antropólogo e folclorista Vicente Salles (1931-2013) para os estudos da literatura de cordel na Amazônia. Salles foi o pioneiro nas pesquisas sobre o cordel na região, sendo responsável também pela formação do principal acervo de folhetos de cordel do Norte do Brasil, o Acervo Vicente Salles, localizado no Museu da Universidade Federal do Pará, em Belém. O trabalho analisa dois estudos de Vicente Salles: o artigo “Guajarina, folhetaria de Francisco Lopes”, publicado em 1971, e o livro Repente e cordel, literatura popular em versos na Amazônia, publicado em 1985.Entendemos que tais estudos são fundamentais para se compreender a produção e circulação do cordel na Amazônia.UFPA - Universidade Federal do Par
