Toponymy is a sensitive issue, perhaps more sensitive than others, for it offers a visual and unmediated expression of the way regulations are implemented in regard to the cultural identities present in a given territory. This paper examines the regulations on toponymy in Spanish law from both the micro and macro perspectives; it also explores requirements on the use of language(s) in street names and road signage.
