El espacio rural de España: Evolución, delimitación y clasificación

The ​​Spanish rural space is clearly dual: compared to the loss of weight in the inner Spain, the rise and consolidation of the periphery and rural hinterland of cities goes on, a phenomenon so striking that it has generated a strong preoccupation with rural emptiness, which, to varying degrees, affects a large part of Europe. The first objective of this article is to analyze the evolution and delimitation of the Spanish rural area, its classification and cartography. The second one, to diagnose the situation and evaluate the plans to contribute to rural development. The analysis is based on the existence, and even abundance of reports, theoretical and applied works of different institutions, organizations and collectives, as well as an extensive bibliography. We add to all this the processing of demographic, economic and social databases whose cartographic representation evidences the phenomenon and its territorial distribution. As a result, the Spanish rural space is classified and mapped into two categories: the deep and stagnant rural, on the one hand, and the intermediate and dynamic rural, on the other; both subdivided into several types.El espacio rural de España es claramente dual: frente a la pérdida de peso del interior se consolida el auge y la densificación de la periferia y de las áreas de influencia urbana; un fenómeno tan llamativo que ha generado una fuerte preocupación por el vaciamiento rural, que, en diverso grado, afecta a una gran parte del continente europeo. El primer objetivo de este artículo es analizar la evolución y delimitación del ámbito rural español, su clasificación y cartografía. El segundo, diagnosticar la situación y valorar los planes para contribuir al desarrollo rural. El análisis ha contado con abundantes informes, trabajos teóricos y aplicados de distintas instituciones, organizaciones y colectivos, además de con una extensa bibliografía. A todo ello se ha superpuesto el tratamiento y procesado de bases de datos demográficos, económicos y sociales cuya representación cartográfica evidencia el fenómeno y su distribución territorial. Como resultado, se clasifica y cartografía el espacio rural español en dos categorías: la del rural profundo y estancado, por un lado, y la del intermedio y dinámico, por otro.
