The aim of this paper is a preliminary consideration, from a geographical perspective, about the increase of inequalities in Canada and Italy. We would like to highlight the spatial dimensions of this phenomenon within the urban environment and its consequences for citizenship, in particular in two metropolises, Montréal and Milan. The analysis of the Italian and the Canadian cases shows that there are signs and boundaries that are becoming very visible in the urban environment. These signs and boundaries confer to spatial exclusion an unprecedented dimension, nourishing and strengthening inequalities.
