Corrosion of steel reinforcements is a phenomenon that can greatly reduce the lifespan of any reinforced concrete structure or structural element. The mechanical, functional and aesthetic capacity of the material are negatively affected by the loss of section and adhesion as a consequence of corrosion procceses or by cracks produced in the surrounding matrix due to stresses caused by corrosion products. Therefore, the study of these processes and of the methods that reduce corrosion kinetics are of utmost importance in the field of architecture and engineering.
