Many of these wild species have been identified as carriers of traits of interest, such as disease resistance, better fruit quality and to abiotic stress resistance, among others. Solanum lycopersicoides is one of the most distant tomato relative that has been possible to cross with tomato to obtain fertile progeny. A group of researchers developed a collection of introgression lines (ILs) derived from S. lycopersicoides in the genetic background of the cultivated species.
