Tratamiento de errores en las redacciones de inglés como lengua extranjera: la estrategia de la autocorrección

[EN] Within the field of active methodologies applied to language teaching and learning, the self-correction technique constitutes a usual practice in which both the teacher and the learner acquire an active role in the teaching and learning process. The teacher assumes her/his task in a more effective way so that the learners construct their own learning in a more meaningful way and participate to improve their linguistic competence in English as the target language. Many L2 teachers (McCargar, 1993 among others) and researchers in the field of error analysis (Ferris, 1999 and Truscott, 1996, among others) believe that not all the mistakes made by learners should be corrected and this is mainly due to the stance which has been adopted based on a communicative approach to language teaching/learning where there is less attention paid to the formal aspects of the language. However, in several investigations it has been noted that L2 students prefer to have all their mistakes corrected by the teachers (for example, Hyland, 2003 and Schulz, 2001). Lee (1997) found that students with their errors underlined were capable of correcting them more successfully than the ones that did not have them marked. Ferris and Roberts (2001), observed that the students that received some feedback on every type of error, obtained better results in their further corrections than the ones that did not receive any kind of response. The main objective of the research has been the design of a self-correction technique and its actual use with Telecommunications Engineering students at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. The learners receive inputs individually in order to be able to correct their own mistakes and learn from them after reflecting and selecting the information relative to the erroneous structures or words on the Web. In the present study, we have investigated the type of errors the subjects made in four compositions, focusing on the categories and subcategories which they modified correctly or incorrectly with the help of the Web as an information resource in the class. Feedback was obtained from the subjects’ point of view concerning the usefulness of the self-correction task. Most of the errors they made were grammatical. After the self-correction, the majority of them were successfully modified and the use of the Web provided optimum information in order to correct errors on syntax, vocabulary and prepositions. From the students’ point of view, the information search on the Web and/or the self-correction practice were very useful and productive.[ES] Dentro del campo de la aplicación de metodologías activas a la enseñanza-aprendizaje de lenguas, la autocorrección constituye una de las prácticas habituales, en la que tanto el enseñante como el aprendiz adquieren un papel activo en el proceso de enseñanza- aprendizaje. El docente asume su tarea de manera más eficaz para que los alumnos construyan sus propios aprendizajes de manera significativa, siendo éstos partícipes en el proceso de mejora de su competencia lingüística del inglés como lengua meta. Algunos profesores de L2 (McCargar, 1993, entre otros) y otros tantos investigadores en el campo del análisis de errores creen que no es necesario la corrección exhaustiva (Ferris, 1999 y Truscott, 1996, entre otros) ni se tendría que corregir todos los errores hechos por los aprendices y esto se debe a la postura adoptada respecto a la enseñanza basada en un enfoque comunicativo, cuyo objetivo (entre otros) es centrarse en la comunicación, sin prestar demasiada atención a los aspectos formales de la lengua. Sin embargo, en numerosas investigaciones se ha observado que los estudiantes de L2 prefieren que todos sus errores sean corregidos por los profesores, acercándose así a un enfoque más conductista (por ejemplo, Hyland, 2003 y Schulz, 2001). Lee (1997) encontró que los estudiantes con los errores subrayados fueron capaces de corregirlos con mayor éxito que los que no tuvieron sus errores marcados. Ferris y Roberts (2001), por su parte, observaron que los grupos de alumnos que recibieron feedback de cada tipo de error o de su localización, obtuvieron mejores resultados en sus correcciones posteriores que a los que no se les aplicó ningún tipo de retroalimentación. El principal objetivo de este trabajo ha sido el diseño de una actividad de autocorrección y su puesta en práctica con alumnos de Ingeniería de Telecomunicaciones de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. Los aprendices reciben individualmente inputs para poder corregir sus propios errores y poder aprender de ellos tras la reflexión y selección de información encontrada en la Web. Se investigaron los tipos de errores que cometieron los aprendices de inglés como lengua extranjera en cuatro redacciones, centrándose en las categorías y subcategorías de errores que corrigieron correctamente e incorrectamente con ayuda de la Web como recurso de información en clase, además de obtener feedback desde el punto de vista de los propios sujetos en cuanto a la utilidad de la práctica de autocorrección. La mayor parte de errores realizados son gramaticales. Tras la autocorrección, la mayoría de los errores han sido rectificados con éxito y el uso de la Web les ha proporcionado información óptima para poder corregir los errores de sintaxis, vocabulario y preposiciones. Desde el punto de vista de los alumnos, tanto el ejercicio de búsqueda de información en la Web como la práctica de la autocorrección les ha sido de gran utilidad y satisfacción.Cardona Sanchis, LI.
