A novel approach to extend the frequency range and improve the resolution of photonic techniques for microwave frequency measurements based on frequency-to-power mapping is demonstrated. The simultaneous use of several amplitude comparison functions allows the extension of the measurement beyond a single monotonic region. Experimental results between 7 and 19 GHz with a resolution better than 100 MHz are presented. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V.
