Narrative

This chapter reviews work in narrative studies published in 2009 that explores new frameworks, additional developments, revision or applications of concepts which reposition the field within the human sciences, adjust its scope to new contexts or criticize its bearing. It covers books dedicated to theoretical approaches modelled by both Anglo-Saxon and European traditions such as cognitive science models, communication theories and poetics, and the relationship between these approaches. While emphasis is put on the way narrative theory revisits terminology in order to account for recent forms coming from oral interactions or serialization of newspaper information as well as ancient forms, the review also touches on the status of narrative theory as an academic discipline and discusses some of the pedagogical challenges it faces
