This article explores the relationship between new media and various traditions within cultural studies through an exploration of forms of theoretical and critical forgetfulness which characterize moments of technological innovation. Finally it asks if tactical and art-practice approaches based on speculative software might be deployed as a means of 'doing' cultural studies
