This article examines the banditry in Kuşadası and its vicinity under the light of changing socio-economic conditions in the Ottoman Western Anatolia in the second half of the 19thcentury and the early 20thcenturies. Furthermore, this study covers the island-land banditry and the significance of the coastal town of Kuşadası in thisbanditry. The history of the Ottoman Empire is full of banditry movements but especially in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries the banditry activities became a serious problem in the Ottoman Empire.
