This dissertation is concerned with the study of an original robotic design whose propulsion system is inspired by the rectilinear mode of locomotion, as observed among real snakes. The proposed design is based on a prototype developed by the TDA company and consists of several modules. Each module is composed by a main body and 4 mechanisms driven by a motor. An analytic study is conducted and optimizations of the locomotor mechanism are introduced. The analysis of the existing prototype's model within an integrated robotic simulator based on open source libraries has shown the necessity to improve the robotic design.
