Objectives –Using data from the French Longitudinal Study of Children ELFE (Growing up in France), ourobjectives were to describe breastfeeding prevalence at maternity units and its association with both parents’characteristics and the context of delivery.Methods –The Elfe survey is based on a representative sample of more than 18,000 infants born in 2011 in a random sample of maternity wards in mainland France. Milk feeding data were collected during the maternity stay using a face-to-face questionnaire administered by healthcare staff.Results – More than two thirds of the infants (70.5%) were breastfed in maternity units (59.0% exclusively,11.5% partially).
