Type of study. Descriptive, transversal study. Objective: to identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices of families and communities regarding the control of vector-borne diseases and vector control. Methodology. Structured interviews were applied to 162 individuals classifying high risk areas for tropical diseases and 1,800 homes were inspected. Results Percentages higher than 75% have favorable attitudes for the control of VTE and their vectors, but they do not have the knowledge or elements required for control practices. The knowledge is insufficient and divided, myths about the mechanism of transmission persist (25.6%). The environmental and intradomiciliary conditions of the houses are favorable for the reproduction of the vectors...
