Teaching and Research Done in Service (TARDIS): Opportunities to Expand University and the Communities We Serve

Presentaion given at the University System of Georgia Teaching & Learning 2018 Conference. The purpose of this session is multi-faceted, as it covers multiple aspects of Service-Learning (S-L) development and implementation from the perspective of an inter-institutional faculty learning community, or FLC. Faculty from universities across the state have come together in real and virtual space to share ideas and support the development and expansion of S-L programs at their institutions. Presenters will share their FLC experiences and outcomes, as well as other topics concerning S-L, including, • Defining and delineating S-L from related activities • Measuring S-L development and outcomes • S-L effectiveness in meeting community needs, including the creation of an instrument for community expectations • Expansion of existing S-L projects • Assessing student readiness • Managing service-learning objectives • Acquiring faculty support • Acquiring funding • Ethical considerations Since this presentation covers a spectrum of topics, faculty, staff, and administrators interested at all levels of S-L development will benefit from attending
