A instalação da Igreja Batista de Corumbá e da Associação Evangélica Batista de Mato Grosso

This article approaches the establishment of the Baptist Church in Corumbá and the creation of the Evangelical Baptist Association of Mato Grosso from 1910 until 1940. In order to contextualize this particular process in Brazilian society, we present facts which marked the arrival of the first Protestant in the State. The 1910s is characterized by the arrival of the first Protestant Baptists, who later founded the Baptist Church of Corumbá. It was a time of contrast involving faith, because of the predominance of the Catholic Church and several other religions which sought to establish in the society of Corumbá and Mato Grosso in general. This period of struggle for land was extended until the 1940s. At that time, the State of Mato Grosso faced a major expansion of Protestant missionary work, especially Baptists, when was founded the Evangelical Baptist Association of Mato Grosso, which sought to unite the Baptist churches in order to strength the evangelization in the country of Mato Grosso.Este artigo trata da implantação da Igreja Batista de Corumbá e da Associação Evangélica Batista de Mato Grosso no período de 1910 até 1940. Para contextualizar esse processo específico na sociedade brasileira da época, apresentamos fatos que marcaram a chegada dos primeiros protestantes no Estado. O período de 1910 é caracterizado pela vinda dos primeiros protestantes batistas, que, mais adiante, fundaram a Igreja Batista de Corumbá. Foi um período de contraposição envolvendo a fé, já que havia, neste tempo, a predominância da Igreja Católica e de várias outras religiões que buscavam se firmar na sociedade corumbaense e mato-grossense de forma geral. Esse período de luta pelo campo estendeu-se até o ano de 1940. Nessa época o Estado de Mato Grosso enfrentou uma grande expansão de obra missionária protestante, especialmente batista, quando foi fundada a Associação Evangélica Batista de Mato Grosso, que buscou unir as igrejas batistas com o intuito de fortalecer a evangelização no campo mato-grossense
