Interview with Rosa Lee Shepard Gibson

Rosa Lee Shepard Gibson is interviewed by Lorraine Crittenden on August 6, 1986 as a part of the Western North Carolina Tomorrow Black Oral History Project. Born in 1908, Gibson recalls her mother’s family, who were enslaved, and her own childhood experiences working on the family farm in Jackson County. She also discusses her education, various places she has lived and worked as a cook, her experiences regarding race relations, and her thoughts on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Gibson talks about attending church, funeral customs, holidays, childhood games, dating and marriage
