This photograph of the Mead plant near downtown Sylva is part of a collection of photographs that were created for the Sylvan, a monthly 1950's publication of Sylva's Mead Corporation. Mead, which opened in 1928, expanded in 1955 and closed in 1974 due to environmental concerns, produced paper for cardboard boxes. Jackson Paper Manufacturing Company, a recycle-based operation, opened in 1995 in the same location
