Many people in South Africa, a secularstate, hold religion as central to their lives, includingtheir working lives, where different religions arefound. A balance has thus to be struck between theright to freedom of religion, the rights of co-employeesand the employer. This article looks into circumstancesin which an employee may be accommodated and whenher/his freedom to religion may be limited. Case lawand relevant laws will be discussed critically andguidelines will be given for employees and employersfor discrimination cases based on religion
