In the Paris basin kaolinic clays are exploited for ceramic and refractory use. The deposits are regular beds of clay, cutted out by sand channels. The kaolinites are desordered kaolinites and fire-clays with varying crystallinity : (1) the crystallinity increases from the pure clays at the base, to the sandy-clays at the top of the formation, (2) and decreases from the South-West to the North-East of the working basin. The weak crystallinity and the fineness of particles give to these clays high plasticity and high-strength in raw ceramic form.
