This article discusses the origins of the Heidelberg Catechism as a consensus text : the Palatinate, where it was promulgated, was a sort of laboratory where different Reformed tendencies converged. This explains the existence of Melanchthonian, Zwinglian and Calvinist influences in the text, as exemplified by its teaching on the Eucharist.
