Since the early days of Greece, philosophers have addressed themselves to questions regarding the nature of beauty and its function in the life of man. For some, such as Pythagoras, beauty was nothing more than certain mathematical relationships properly expressed and leading to an apprehension of the true nature of the cosmos; for others, such as Immanuel Kant, beauty was not so easily explained in terms of completely objective or mathematical existence.
