Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merril] is the main crop in Brazil. Its expected production in the 2018/2019 harvest is 115 million tons, referring to 36 million hectares of agricultural land. To follow the growth of the plants in the field and to estimate the production or losses resulting from the stimuli or stresses affected by the crop, it is necessary to use parameters such as the leaf area index (LAI), given by the quotient between the leaf area (LA) and the soil area occupied by it. The LAI is directly related to productivity and its depends on the accuracy of the computation/estimation of the LA.
