A tool for assisting the design of magnetic recording devices is presented. The modeling of the phenomenon requires calculating the magnetic field in a device of complex geometry taking into account the hysteresis of the recording medium.We propose a two-dimensional self-consistent calculation in which the finite element method is associated with a hysteresis model to determine the magnetization in the recording medium.The choice of a hysteresis model that is both precise and numerically simple is done after confronting the behavior expected by the most interesting models of the literature and the behavior observed experimentally in the case of very thin media for longitudinal recording.The behavior of the recording medium being strongly no...
