International audienceIn the 14th and 15th centuries, a large movement of translations of texts in English appeared in many fields of the knowledge and of the literature: Bible, devotional works, chronicles, romances, didactic, medical and scientific works. This paper aims to analyse the main characteristics of this movement. The first point is the important number of translations from French - Latin was not the only mediatory language. Second, their patrons were first and foremost aristocracts, members of the nobility or of the gentry, men and women. It is only with Henry V and his brother Humphrey of Gloucester, from the 1410-1420s that a sketch of princely politics appears, not really followed in the later decades, marked by the politica...
