Electrical machine optimization process becomes increasingly demanding with higher-performance requirements for the electrical machine and its drive/control. This can significantly increase the computational requirement of the optimization process. This paper presents a review of the state-of-the-art in term of optimization of electrical machines. The review will cover modeling, analysis and optimization algorithms with emphasis on the computational efficiency. The paper will also focus on optimizing electrical machines for a wide constant power speed range which requires including multiple operating points (in some cases representative of a drive cycle)in the optimization process.
