Vitamin Ddeficiency is frequently present in patients affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD). Experimental studies demonstrated that Vitamin D may play a role in the pathophysiology of diseases beyond mineral bone disorders in CKD (CKD-MBD). Unfortunately, the lack of large and interventional studies focused on the so called "non-classic" effects of 25(OH) Vitamin D supplementation in CKD patients, doesn't permit to conclude definitely about the beneficial effects of this supplementation in clinical practice.
