The failure of many structural polymers usually begins from the micro-cracks formed within the materials. Materials which contain healing agents (in microcapsules) can autonomously repair these cracks to prevent further propagation and failure. When cracks occur and rupture the microcapsules, the healing agent released would solidify through selected mechanism. In this work, a potential healing material was developed using an alkyd from palm kernel oil (PKO). The alkyd was synthesized to have a controlled amount of carboxylic groups (COOH), capable to form crosslinking reaction with the epoxide groups in the epoxy matrix.
