Cities, metropolises, are political beasts. Urbanisation processes are also political. Cities, metropolises, are the locus of many powers, including protest, but coalitions may bring together political capacity by extracting resources, mobilising different groups, implementing policies. The political sociology of urbanisation on the one hand, and cities and metropolises on the other, point towards thinking in terms of turbulence, riots, inequality and mobilisation, together with institutions, policies, governance, policing and relative social order.
