A systematic “parameter free” calibration integral equation method is proposed for estimating the surface temperature and surface heat flux in the context of one-dimensional, transient, nonlinear inverse heat conduction problems. The calibration integral equation method can be formulated in terms of various probes arrangements. Temperature-dependent thermophysical properties and probe locations are not specified a priori but are implicitly accounted through the calibration campaigns. The final mathematical formulations involve Volterra integral equations of the first kind for the unknown surface temperature or surface heat flux.
