Anna Lord Strauss was a noted feminist and women's rights activist who served as the president of the League of Women Voters from 1944-1950. Under her leadership, the League underwent many changes and expanded its membership. Strauss was also known for her influential push in the formation of the United Nations. The League of Women Voters was first formed at the national level in early 1920 by Carrie Chapman Catt, President of the National Woman Suffrage Association.
