Mary Foulke Morrisson lecture on women's suffrage

This booklet is a copy of a lecture given by Mary Foulke Morrisson at Connecticut College on October 12, 1960. The lecture was the second in a series of annual lectures, the Mary Foulke Morrisson Lectureship, endowed by the League of Women Voters of Connecticut in 1959. This copy of the lecture was published on August 21, 1961. Morrisson was a leader and pioneer in the women's rights movement, and was on the Board of Trustees at Connecticut College for several years. The lecture was titled "A Crusade and Some Crusaders" and explains the history of the campaign for women's suffrage. This item comes from the League of Women Voters of Ohio Collection. The League of Women Voters was first formed at the national level in early 1920 by Carrie Chapman Catt, President of the National Woman Suffrage Association. Soon, additional leagues began to form at the state and local level, with the League of Women Voters of Ohio being organized in May 1920 in Columbus. The League was first formed to empower women to use their newfound right to vote, and today its primary purpose remains citizen education.
