Ration stamps for the purchase of gasoline during WWII. The Office of Price Administration was created during WWII to fight inflation and preserve needed supplies for the war effort, and they accomplished this by establishing a rationing system. Many types of goods were rationed, from cloth to meat to rubber tires. Some items, like gasoline, were rationed using a coupon or point system. The "C" on these stamps indicates a larger portion of gasoline allotted to the owner, who would use it for activities essential to daily life or to the war. C.
