Greenville County is currently experiencing rapid growth in population. From the year 2000 to 2009, the county itself has seen an 18.9 percent increase in population (US Census, 2010). This is contrasted against the population growth for the city which only saw a 2.2 percent increase for roughly the same time period (US Census, 2010). Judging from these numbers, a major emphasis within the geographical area should be towards regional planning. This type of planning emphasis will help in both ensuring that the county, and region, can sustain growth in the coming decades while not expericing deterioration in its good quality-of-life
