Noah Swayne (1804-1884) was the first of Abraham Lincoln's five appointments to the Supreme Court. After leaving his native Virginia at age 19 because he was opposed to slavery, Swayne settled in Ohio and later served in the state legislature. He was appointed United States Attorney for Ohio by President Andrew Jackson. The photo has been folded and has numerous cracks and chips out of it, but the image is still clear
